Mattress sale

Every mattress in our sale is genuinely reduced: each "was" price is one we've charged, and there are no countdown timers. Sale mattresses come with the same delivery and returns terms as the rest of the range.

Are your sale prices genuine?

Every "was" price in the Mattress Town sale is a price we have genuinely charged for that mattress, so the reduction you see is real.

A discount is only as honest as the price it's measured from. A "was" price that a mattress rarely or never sold at makes a saving look bigger than it is, and we won't do that. We don't use countdown timers either. You'll see the sale price, the price we charged before, and the same details as on any other mattress page, so you can judge the mattress on its merits.

How do I know if a mattress deal is good?

A mattress deal is good when the price is low for what you're getting, so compare like with like: the same size, a similar depth and the same construction, rather than the size of the discount.

Compare Why it matters
Size A UK double is 135 x 190 cm and a European double is 140 x 200 cm, so their prices aren't comparable.
Depth A deep mattress (25 cm and over) usually has more layers than a standard one (about 18 to 25 cm).
Construction Pocket sprung, open coil, hybrid and foam mattresses cost different amounts to make, so compare within one type.
Spring count Counts are quoted for one size, often a double or king, so check which size before you compare two figures.
Firmness There's no industry-wide firmness scale, so compare firmness within one shop.
Delivery A rolled mattress is easier to carry up narrow stairs, while a flat one is ready to sleep on straight away.

Once a price looks right, make sure the mattress suits you. Every mattress page shows firmness on our 1 to 10 scale, and a mattress with the wrong feel is poor value at any price.

Do sale mattresses get the same delivery and returns?

A sale mattress is delivered the same way as any other mattress we sell and has the same returns terms, which are set out on our delivery and returns page.

Most of our mattresses can be delivered the next working day. The delivery time is on each mattress page, with a note of whether it comes rolled and boxed or flat and wrapped, and tracking follows by email once your order is on its way. If you need a mattress quickly, start with our next day delivery mattresses.

What should I check before buying a mattress in a sale?

Before you buy a sale mattress, check three things: that the size matches the inside of your bed frame, that the depth suits your bed, and that the firmness suits how you sleep.

  • Size: measure inside the frame rather than the old mattress, which may have spread with age. Beds from European brands often take a 200 cm long mattress, so use our mattress size guide if you're unsure which size you have.
  • Depth: on a bunk, high sleeper or cabin bed, the mattress must sit at or below the maximum mattress line marked on the frame.
  • Firmness: side sleepers usually suit medium-soft to medium, back sleepers medium to medium-firm, and front sleepers medium-firm to firm.

When is the best time to buy a mattress?

The best time to buy a mattress is when your current one needs replacing, sale or no sale: when it sags, has lumps, you can feel the springs or you wake up stiff.

An adult mattress typically lasts around 7 to 10 years, and one that's past its best won't improve while you wait for a reduction. What's in our sale changes from time to time, and we price fairly every day, so a mattress at full price is fairly priced too.

We're a family-run shop, and we price the way we'd like to be treated as customers: fairly, every day, with no clock ticking. If the sale doesn't have what you need, browse all mattresses or our cheap mattresses, and add a mattress protector to keep your new mattress clean from the first night.

Mattress sale: your questions answered

Can't see your question? Ask us and we'll get back to you.

What does a "was" price mean on a mattress?

A "was" price is the price a mattress sold at before it was reduced. In the Mattress Town sale, every "was" price is one we have genuinely charged for that mattress, so the gap between the "was" price and the sale price is a real saving, not a number set high to make a discount look bigger.

Can I return a mattress bought in the sale?

A mattress bought in the sale has the same returns terms as one bought at full price, so buying in the sale doesn't change your options. Our delivery and returns page sets out how returns work and any conditions that apply, so read it before you order if you think you might need to send a mattress back.

Can a sale mattress be delivered next day?

Most of our mattresses can be delivered the next working day, Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays, and sale mattresses are delivered the same way as the rest of the range. You'll find the delivery time on each mattress page, along with whether the mattress comes rolled or flat, and we email tracking once your order is on its way.

Why don't you use countdown timers?

We don't use countdown timers because a mattress is a decision you'll live with for years, and a clock on the page adds pressure without telling you anything useful. Every sale price is a genuine reduction from a price we've charged, so what matters is whether the mattress has the right size, depth and firmness for you.

Is a bigger discount always a better deal?

A bigger discount isn't always a better deal, because it only measures the gap between two prices. Compare the sale price with other mattresses of the same size, depth and construction instead. A modest reduction on the right mattress beats a large one on the wrong mattress.

Should I wait for a sale to buy a mattress?

Only if your current mattress is still comfortable and supportive. We set fair prices every day, so a mattress at its full price is fairly priced too, and the sale is a bonus rather than the only sensible time to buy. If your mattress is already letting you down, it's worth replacing it now rather than waiting.

Are sale mattresses fire safe?

Yes. Every mattress we sell meets UK fire safety rules (BS 7177), whether it's in the sale or at full price, so a reduced price never means a lower safety standard. Each mattress page also shows firmness on our 1 to 10 scale, so you can check a sale mattress as carefully as any other.
