If a UK double you already have leaves a strip of bare slats down one side and at the foot, those are the 5 cm and 10 cm gaps, and your frame is a 140 x 200. A 140 x 200 cm mattress won't fit a UK double frame either: it's 5 cm too wide and 10 cm too long, so it won't lie flat. A UK king is 150 x 200 cm, 10 cm wider, and a European king is 160 x 200 cm, 20 cm wider.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe confusion is understandable, because 140 x 200 cm is the same length as a UK king and wider than a UK double. But a UK king mattress won't go into a 140 cm frame, and a 140 x 200 cm mattress in a UK king frame leaves a 10 cm gap across. If you're choosing a new bed rather than filling an old one, a \u003ca href=\"\/collections\/king-size-mattresses\"\u003eUK king size mattress\u003c\/a\u003e gives 75 cm each and a European king (160 x 200 cm) gives 80 cm each.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eIs a European double big enough for two?\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA European double gives two people 70 cm each, 2.5 cm more than a UK double and exactly the width of a toddler's cot bed mattress.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFor many couples that's enough, and the 200 cm length suits people up to about 185 to 190 cm tall, against about 175 to 180 cm on a UK double.
